Yesterday at UKREiiF, Paul Ruff joined a roundtable of experts from across architecture, engineering, law, finance and local government to explore a pressing question: how do we unlock the true value of Britain’s heritage assets?


Hosted by Farrer & Co, the discussion examined the economic, cultural and social role historic buildings play in shaping thriving places and communities.


A key theme throughout was the idea that successful heritage regeneration begins with understanding a building’s “DNA”, its inherent character, spatial qualities and history, before determining what it should become. Paul spoke about the importance of patience, listening and allowing buildings, communities and stakeholders to shape outcomes together, rather than imposing solutions for short-term return.
