- Event: Barbican Private View of Unravel
A wonderful evening attending the private viewing of ‘Unravel - The Power and Politics of Textiles in Art’ at The Barbican Art Gallery. ‘In this major group exhibition, 50 international, intergenerational artists use textiles to communicate vital ideas about power, resistance and survival. From intimate hand-crafted pieces to monumental sculptural installations, these works offer narratives of violence, imperialism and exclusion alongside stories of resilience, love and hope.’ RUFFARCHITECTS recently worked alongside The City of London to re-imagine the Barbican Art Gallery space, creating a 21st century, industry leading environment capable of hosting acclaimed international exhibitions to a world wide audience. Addressing accessibility was a critical part of the project. Newly located, increased lift capacity and navigation routes that aligned with the main staircase successfully improved mobility & visibility. Display walls, lighting and flooring were also creatively adjusted throughout the gallery enhancing the visual experience and way-finding for all who visit. Unravel is open until the 26th May 2024.
